Things to Know about Tribal sports meet in Odisha


Tribal Sports Meet 2017 is a series of athletic events to promote sports among tribals in Odisha, was inaugurated by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik through video conferencing at the State Secretariat today.

The government claimed that Odisha was the first state to organise a sports meet, exclusively for members of the tribal community.

The meet was launched by CM Naveen Patnaik at three blocks – Semiliguda in Koraput, Udala in Mayurbhanj and Sundargarh Sadar in Sundargarh districts.

The meet will be held in 119 tribal dominated blocks across the state in sub-junior (under 14 years), junior (between 14-17 years) and senior (between 17 and 35 years) age groups.

Both individual & team sports are included.Individual sports such as running and archery and team sports like football, hockey, kabaddi, kho kho and volleyball are included in the meet.


The competition is being held in Sub-Junior, Junior and Senior categories. The district level events will start in January 2018 followed by State level events in February.

The winners from the district and state levels would be awarded with the prizes amounting to Rs 1.08 crore and Rs 5.55 lakh, respectively.
