Nila Madhab Panda and Haldhar Nag chosen for Padma Shri Award


Padma Shri’ is honoured for distinguished service in any field.The awards are announced on the occasion of Republic Day every year.

Nila Madhab Panda , The Internationally acclaimed Film Maker and Producer and Renowned Kosli poet and writer Haldhar Nag have been chosen for Padma Shri award- 2016.

Nila Madhab Panda has been chosen for the prestigious Padma Shri Award for his contributions in Art-Film Direction and Production.His films are based on important social issues such as climate change,sanitation ,child labor, education,water issues and many other developmental issues in India.He has produced and directed over 70 diverse and cutting edge Films,documentaries and shorts.His films have won him several awards and critical acclaim.

His very first iconic feature film, the highly acclaimed ‘I am Kalam’, has won 32 International awards, one national award. Amongst the most prestigious he won Viewers’ Choice award at IFFLA, People’s Choice Award at the Montreal, Best Feature Film and best director award in California, Most Prestigious “The Don Quixote Prize” of the ICCF at Germany, Best film at Frankfurt and Bronze Cairo , The Prize of the International Center of Films For Children & Young People, Best film from the Indian Panorama by the Young Jury at the IFFI, Goa, Best Debut Director Aravindam Purashkaram, and many more.

Haldhar Nag  , the eminent Kosli poet and writer has been chosen for the award for his contribution towards Literature & Education.From a peanut seller,Nag has managed to carve a niche for himself in the literary field of Odisha,as a Koshali poet.He is often compared to Gangadhar Meher.The BBC made a documentary film about his life and works. Initially writing Kosli folk stories,in the 1990s he started writing poems in the Kosali language.His incredible works include Lokgeet, Samparda, Krushnaguru, Mahasati Urmila, Tara Mandodari, Achhia, Bacchhar, Siri Somalai, Veer Sundar Sai, Karamsani, Rasia Kavi (biography of Tulasidas), Prem Paechan.The themes of Haladhar’s works vary from mythological to social, political and even scientific events. His mythological works include Mahasati Urmila and Tara Mandodari while his works on social issues include masterpiece like Achhia.

Apart from NIla Madhab Panda & Haldhar Nag , Sribhas Supakar originally from Sambalpur who has settled in Uttar Pradesh , will also be honoured with Padma Shri for his great contribution in Textile designing.
